Prices are for common cars and trucks. European, performance, and heavy-duty brakes cost more in parts, and KC will tell you the number before he orders anything. Every brake job is covered for 12 months / 12,000 miles, parts and labor. Snap Finance is available on jobs of$500 or more.

The signs

When to come in

  • Squeal or grind when you stop, especially the first stops of the day
  • Pedal feels soft, sinks, or pulses under your foot
  • Car pulls to one side when braking
  • Brake warning light, or the dash says pad wear
  • It's been 30,000+ miles and you can't remember the last brake job

Grinding means the pad is gone and metal is on metal. Every mile from there is scoring the rotor and turning a pad job into a pad-and-rotor job. If it grinds, call today.

How KC does a brake job

  1. 01
Wheels off, pads measured, rotors checked for scoring and runout
  2. 02
You get the findings and a number before any parts are ordered
  3. 03
Pads and rotors installed, hardware cleaned, torqued to spec
  4. 04
Bedded in on a road test so they stop straight from day one
What I won't do

No pads-only on a rotor that's done.

A chain will sell you pads on a scored rotor because it's a cheaper ticket and you'll be back in a year. I won't. If the rotor is below minimum or scored, I show you the rotor, tell you why, and quote the axle properly. If the rotor is fine, I say so and you pay for pads only. Either way you see it before you decide.

Tesla and hybrid owners: regenerative braking means your pads last a long time, but the rotors and slide pins rust from sitting. That's the squeal you hear the first stop of the morning. It's usually a clean-and-lube, not a brake job, and KC will tell you which.

Brakes are also the thing KC checks on every oil change, so most customers hear about pad wear months before it becomes a problem.

Brake FAQ

How much is a brake job at KC's?

Pads and rotors start at $220 per axle for common cars and trucks, parts and labor. KC measures the pads and checks the rotors first and gives you the number before he orders anything. If the rotors are fine, you pay for pads only.

Do I need rotors or just pads?

Depends on the rotor. If it's above minimum thickness and not scored or warped, pads alone are fine and KC will say so. If it's below minimum or grooved, new pads on it will squeal and wear fast, and he'll show you the rotor before quoting the full axle.

How long does a brake job take?

One axle is usually about an hour. Both axles, plus a fluid exchange, is a half day. KC tells you when to expect it when he quotes.

My brakes squeal in the morning and then stop. Is that a problem?

Often it's surface rust on the rotor from sitting overnight, especially on hybrids and Teslas that barely use the pads. If it clears after a few stops it's usually fine. If it keeps squealing or turns into a grind, come in. The inspection is free.

Is there a warranty?

Yes. Parts and labor are covered for 12 months or 12,000 miles, whichever comes first. That applies to brake jobs and to everything else KC installs.

Can you do brakes on a Tesla?

Yes. Tesla pads last a long time because of regenerative braking, but calipers and slide pins seize from lack of use and rotors rust. KC services and cleans them, and replaces pads and rotors when they're actually worn.
